U-12 Game Format: 11v11
Minimum number of players on a side: 7
Ball Size: 4
Field Size: ~52 x 90 yds, Goal Box 20 x 6 yds, Penalty Area 34 x 14 yds
Goal sizes: 7 x 21 ft
Goalies: yes
Referees: yes
Playing time: 2 x 30 minute halves with 5 minute break in between.
Substitutions: unlimited according to the following modified laws:

  1. Prior to a throw-in, in your favor.
  2. Prior to a goal kick, by either team.
  3. After a goal, by either team.
  4. After an injury, when the referee stops play, by either team.
  5. At half time.
  6. When the referee stops play to caution a player, only the cautioned player may be substituted, prior to the restart of the game.
A substitute shall not enter the field of play until he/she has been given a signal to do so by the referee.
Game Cancellation / Re-Schedule / change of time or location: A team which cannot field a squad for a scheduled game must:
  1. Contact the opposing coach (contact info is above the game schedule).
  2. Email Recreational Match Scheduler John Baker.
  3. NOTIFY THE REFEREE ASSIGNOR, Jerry Nelson at 883-9507.
There are no make-ups scheduled by the league.

Spectators: All adults, coaches and players are to stay on the touchline at least one yard from the field. Besides expressing appropriate encouragement all adults should refrain from "coaching" from the sidelines. (See ACCYSL Rules for Sideline Behavior for more information).

Modified Laws:
  • All ACCYSL Rec Teams MUST adhere to the "4 Goal Rule". (See ACCYSL 4 GOAL RULE).
  • Fouls are penalized with a direct free kick. For fouls inside the Goal Area the kick is taken from the goal area nearest to where the infringement occurred (see FIFA laws).
  • Walls can be positioned at the discretion of the referee. 8 yards is appropriate.
  • Penalty kinks are in effect.
  • Goal kicks taken from anywhere inside the Goal Area.
  • Players get 2 chances for a legal throw-in (has to be same player both times).
  • Corner kicks are played at this age.
  • Rough/Dangerous play results in game stoppage, a simple explanation to the players and award of a free kick by opposing team.
  • Score is kept.
  • Offsides is called at this age.
  • Safety of the players is of primary concern. The game should be stopped if the supervisor believes that there is an injured player who needs attention. Adults should not come onto the field without the permission of the supervisor.
  • Players will not be allowed to play a ball from the ground regardless of the circumstances. The players should become accustomed to hearing a whistle whenever anyone falls near the ball.

Other age group considerations:
  • ACCYSL asks that *all* rec teams line up and shake hands with the other team *before* the game starts. The home team should stand in a single line and all the visiting team members should walk by and shake each of the players and coaches hands. This handshake does not preclude a post game cheers, handshakes or "tunnels".
  • All players play at least 50% of each game.
  • Adults should only express positive encouragement and should complement players from either team when good play or sportspersonship is exhibited.
  • Total allocated time for field use is 90 minutes referees should ensure that the teams don't run over.
  • Coaches may "mix-in" teams if both teams approve maximize everyone's playing time.

Reporting Results:
The league requires that all results be reported. This information IS NOT MADE PUBLIC. It is required so that the match scheduler can "re-flight" mid season, providing all players with a better playing situation throughout the season. Results should be reported within 72 hours of the game.

After the game go to MySoccerLeague.com, and:
  1. Sign in as team contact.
  2. Click on Game Reports.
  3. Click on Make Report and enter results.
